Since the announcement of elections, the Election Commission (Election Commission of India) has made multiple changes at the administrative level. The Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, DG, and Kolkata Police Commissioner have been transferred.

Now, the names of Returning Officers have been added to that list. On Monday, the Commission issued a statement transferring 73 Returning Officers in the state. Notably, this includes the Returning Officer of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's (CM Mamata Banerjee) constituency Bhowanipore.

New move by EC

The state has a total of 294 assembly constituencies. Each constituency has one Returning Officer. This means the total number of Returning Officers in the state is 294. Among them, 73 have been transferred. The list of new constituencies has also been provided simultaneously. The Returning Officers must report there by 5 PM on Tuesday. Their training will begin from Wednesday, as stated in the directive.

Immediately after the election announcement on March 15, the Commission transferred Chief Secretary Nandini Chakraborty and Home Secretary Jagdishprasad Meena. The Commission did not stop there.
