A devastating fire broke out in a slum near Eco Park in Kolkata's New Town area. Sources report that firefighting efforts are facing difficulties due to the extremely congested slum area. Multiple fire engines are working to extinguish the blaze. The fire has spread across a large area. Thick smoke has engulfed the vast region. Local residents are also helping in the firefighting efforts.
It has been learned that a fire suddenly broke out in a slum in the Ghuni area adjacent to Eco Park in New Town. Within moments, the fire took a terrifying form. The fire started spreading from one shack after another, reducing everything on its way to ashes. Local residents claim that gas cylinder explosions inside the shanties caused the fire to spread rapidly. Multiple explosion sounds were heard in the area immediately after the incident.

Upon receiving the news, 10-12 fire engines reached the spot. However, the fire has not been brought under control yet. The fire department is conducting firefighting operations. Local people in the area are also making efforts. According to locals, there are more than 200 shacks in that area. While it is known that five to ten shacks have been completely burnt. It is feared that the extent of damage may increase further.
Residents are panicked about the possibility of the fire spreading to surrounding areas. However, no casualties have been reported so far. But the administration has stated that the cause of the fire and the extent of damage can only be assessed after the fire is extinguished.
