As the electoral atmosphere heats up across the state, the weather, too, appears to be shifting its mood frequently. According to the Alipore Meteorological Department, a noticeable change in weather conditions is expected even before the first phase of voting.
The Met Office has indicated that while only isolated thunderstorms may occur in one or two districts over the next 48 to 72 hours, the intensity and spread are likely to increase in the coming days. Over the next week, several parts of the state may witness a rise in thunderstorm activity, bringing sudden changes in weather conditions.
Kolkata to remain humid for now
In Kolkata, the day began with a mix of clouds and bright sunshine. Despite the changing sky conditions, there is no immediate possibility of rainfall before April 20. The city is expected to continue experiencing humid and uncomfortable conditions for the time being.

On Saturday, the minimum temperature in Kolkata was recorded at 27.3 degrees Celsius, which is 1.1 degrees above normal. The maximum temperature stood at 34.0 degrees Celsius, slightly below normal by 1.6 degrees.
South Bengal faces heat and discomfort
Across South Bengal, the weather is expected to remain sultry, especially in coastal districts where humidity levels are likely to stay high. Several districts may also experience hot, dry winds similar to loo conditions.
However, there could be some relief later in the day. The sky may turn cloudy in the afternoon or evening in some districts, with a chance of scattered rainfall.

Mixed conditions in North Bengal
In North Bengal, the weather pattern is expected to vary. While the hilly regions are likely to enjoy relatively pleasant conditions, the plains may continue to experience discomfort due to heat and humidity.
On the day of the first phase of voting, there is a possibility of gusty winds accompanied by thunder and lightning in multiple districts, particularly during the latter half of the day.
