An assistant professor from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kolkata has found her name missing from the final voter list, despite having all documents in place. Nandita Ray, a resident of Jadavpur, said she has been voting regularly since 2009 without any issues.
Application for correction triggers confusion
Recently, Ray applied to update her details in the voter list linked to her father’s address in Ballygunge. For this, she submitted Form-8, which is used for corrections and updates. The process appeared routine at first, and her name was included in the draft voter list published in December.

However, the situation changed when the final list was released on February 28. Her name was shown as “under consideration” at that stage. By March 31, it had been removed entirely from the list. The change came without any clear explanation.
Alleges lack of prior notice
Ray has raised concerns over the process, stating that no prior notice or communication was given before her name was struck off. She questioned how a voter with a consistent record and valid documents could be excluded without notification.
