Metro services were disrupted during the evening rush on the first busy day of the week after an incident at Maidan Metro Station. At around 5:58 PM on Monday, a passenger jumped onto the up line, prompting Metro Railway authorities to immediately switch off the power supply to the track. Rescue operations were launched at once to ensure the passenger’s safety.
As a result, train services were affected for a period, causing inconvenience to commuters returning home from work.
Currently, metro services are running on both up and down lines from Central to Dakshineswar and from Mahanayak Uttam Kumar to Shahid Khudiram Station. However, passengers are facing severe inconvenience as uninterrupted services are not available. This means it is not possible to travel directly from Dakshineswar to Shahid Khudiram by metro, cutting through traffic. During this time, there is considerable pressure from office-goers and college-goers returning home.

Crowds have been observed at metro stations due to this disruption. Many passengers are waiting at Maidan Metro Station. They have demanded that services be normalised immediately.
Incidents of jumping in front of trains at metro stations are not new on the Blue Line. Passengers face severe inconvenience due to such incidents. Questions are being raised again about whether awareness campaigns asking people not to stand outside the yellow line at metro stations and warnings of fines have been very effective, given such incidents.
