The West Bengal government has removed Priyadarshini Mallick from the post of WBCHSE secretary and directed her to rejoin Ashutosh College.

The West Bengal government has relieved Dr Priyadarshini Mallick from her post as secretary of the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) with immediate effect.

An official order issued by the School Education Department on May 14 stated that the move was taken following administrative restructuring directives issued earlier by the Home and Hill Affairs Department.

According to the notification issued from Bikash Bhavan, Priyadarshini Mallick has been directed to return to her “mother posting” as assistant professor at Ashutosh College in Kolkata.

The order stated: “In pursuance of the administrative restructuring directives issued by the Home and Hill Affairs Department… she is hereby released from the post of Secretary, WBCHSE, with immediate effect.”

Directed to return to Ashutosh College

The government order further instructed Priyadarshini Mallick to immediately rejoin her previous academic position at Ashutosh College, where she served before taking charge as secretary of the higher secondary education council.


West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education


The notification was issued by the Deputy Secretary to the Government of West Bengal and noted that the decision had the approval of the competent authority of the department.

Administrative reshuffle in education department

The development comes amid ongoing administrative restructuring within several state departments in West Bengal.

While the official notification does not mention any specific reason beyond restructuring directives, the move has drawn attention within education and administrative circles because of the significance of the WBCHSE secretary’s role in overseeing higher secondary education administration in the state.

Priyadarshini Mallick had earlier been associated with the teaching profession before being appointed to the council position.

The state government has not yet announced who will replace her as secretary of the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education.
