Suriya and Trisha Krishnan’s much-awaited Tamil film Karuppu ran into release-day trouble after several special 9 AM shows across Tamil Nadu were cancelled despite receiving earlier approval from Chief Minister Vijay. The unexpected disruption left fans confused, especially after advance bookings for the early screenings had already opened in many theatres.

Special shows approved earlier
Earlier this week, the Tamil Nadu government led by Chief Minister Vijay had granted permission for five shows a day for two days, including special 9 AM screenings for Karuppu. As per the news of NDTV, the film’s team had publicly thanked the Chief Minister and the state government for approving the additonal shows ahead of the theatrical release.
The move had generated excitement among fans of Suriya, with many theatres announcing early morning screenings and opening advance ticket bookings. Social media was also flooded with celebratory posts from fans after the approval was announced.
Last-minute cancellations create confusion
However, on the day of release, reports emerged that several theatres had either paused bookings or cancelled the 9 AM screenings altogether. Fans who had booked tickets for the early shows faced uncertainty as theatres began updating schedules at the last moment.
While no official detailed explanation was immediately shared, the cancellations may have been linked to last-minute release hurdles and possible financial or distribution-related issues involving the film.
Producer apologises to fans
Following the confusion, producer S. R. Prabhu took to his X handle and issued an apology regarding the unexpected developments surrounding the film’s release. Director RJ Balaji also addressed fans online after the cancellation of the special morning screenings.
Despite the setback, Karuppu is still expected to continue its theatrical release later in the day. Fans continued gathering outside theatres, hoping that regular screenings would proceed without further disruptions.
