BJP’s criticism of attacks on journalists
Via X, Malviya alleged that several journalists, including women reporters, were targeted during the protests.
He said there could be no justification for attacks on media personnel and questioned what he described as inconsistent responses from sections of the political spectrum and civil society when journalists came under attack.

Government promises action after Kolkata protest violence
The remarks came after journalists were assaulted while covering a protest march in Kolkata over the alleged NEET paper leak.
According to a PTI report, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari condemned the violence in the Assembly and assured “strictest action” against those responsible under the recently enacted West Bengal Public Safety and Control of Anti-social Activities Act, 2026, commonly referred to as the Goonda Act.

Details of the incident and police response
Addressing the Assembly, Adhikari said the attack on journalists was unacceptable and stated that those involved would face legal action.
He also said the violence began after miscreants allegedly started throwing shoes and water bottles, first at police personnel and later at journalists.
Six FIRs were registered in connection with the incident, and authorities identified several individuals allegedly involved in the violence.
The chief minister also said he had visited injured journalists undergoing treatment at a government hospital and directed officials to ensure appropriate medical care.
He praised the police for exercising restraint during the protest despite what he described as attempts to provoke violence.
