A female gold trader was robbed at gunpoint by miscreants just as she was about to enter her house. The attackers snatched a bag containing gold and silver jewellery and fled after firing shots in the air. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening in the Deshbandhupara area of Ramganj, under the Islampur police station, in North Dinajpur district.
The Islampur police station has launched an investigation.
According to local sources, Arti Das runs a gold and silver jewellery shop in Ramganj market in Islampur. As on other days, she closed her shop on Tuesday and headed home carrying some jewellery with her. As soon as she reached the front gate of her house, three miscreants allegedly surrounded her.

The attackers reportedly threatened her at gunpoint and snatched the bag containing the jewellery before fleeing the scene. They allegedly fired four rounds while escaping. The sound of gunfire created panic in the area, and tension spread across Ramganj market within minutes.
Arti Das said, “Three miscreants showed me firearms and took away the bag of gold and silver jewellery. They also fired shots in the air while leaving. We are extremely terrified.”
Upon receiving information, police personnel from the Ramganj outpost rushed to the spot. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined, and investigators are questioning eyewitnesses. A search operation has been launched to trace the accused.
Following the incident, local traders have demanded increased police surveillance in the area.
