A tragic accident occurred in Sitong, Darjeeling. Three people died after a car fell into a gorge. According to sources, one of the deceased was also a panchayat member. This incident took place on Sunday night. The incident came to light on Monday. The accident occurred at Mana in Sitong under the Kurseong subdivision.
According to sources, the accident happened on Sunday night while travelling from Kurseong to Sitong. Since the incident occurred at night, no one noticed it. Rescue operations began after the matter came to attention on Monday. According to sources, three passengers in the car died. However, the driver was rescued in a critically injured condition and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. Police are investigating whether the accident occurred due to fog at night or for some other reason.

According to police sources, an SUV met with an accident and fell at least 300 feet down into a roadside gorge. Local residents allege that the accident may have occurred due to the extremely poor condition of the road.
The three deceased are Bijen Khawas, Rupen Khawas and Ramesh Gurung. They were all residents of Sitong. Among them, Bijen Khawas was a member of Sitong 1 Gram Panchayat.
Anu Pradhan, president of Kurseong Panchayat Samiti, said, "This incident happened around 10 pm. They had gone to seek permission from the police for some work. This incident happened while returning from there. No one knows how it happened. The villagers came out in the morning and saw it."
