What happened on December 23
Police said that on December 23, Shishir, a young man from Mirpur village, had gone to watch a women's football tournament in the Bishwanathpur area of Enayetpur gram panchayat in Keshpur block. He had been missing since then. A missing person diary was filed at the police station on December 29 by Shishir's family. On Monday, January 5, his body was recovered from a char of the Kansai river in an area adjacent to Mirpur. Several dogs were repeatedly scratching the sand surface, which aroused suspicion among locals. They then informed the police. Following this lead, the body was recovered. Earlier, on January 2, Shishir's bicycle had also been recovered from the Kansai or Kansabati river. The family had alleged that Shishir was murdered and his body was buried under sand. But who buried his body under sand? Keshpur police station was looking for answers to all these questions.
During the investigation, on January 6, police detained a divorced young woman suspected of being Shishir's girlfriend. However, police released her after interrogation. But following information provided by her and using police's own sources, they learned that besides that young woman, Shishir was also involved in an extramarital affair with another person. That housewife's name is Urmila Hembram. She is also a resident of Mirpur village. On the day of the incident (December 23), during the afternoon football tournament, when Urmila's husband Sunil Hembram was not at home, Shishir took advantage of this opportunity and entered Urmila's room. Sunil's friend Santu Mallick saw Shishir entering Urmila's house. He called Sunil and informed him about the matter. Sunil quickly reached home. He found his wife in an intimate situation with Shishir. After that, he locked the door and first slapped his wife. Then he started brutally beating Shishir. Santu also assisted in the beating.
Body buried, crime uncovered days later
Police claim that Shishir died from the beating by the two men. Later that night, the two together took Shishir's body and buried it by digging a hole in a char of the Kansai river not far from the house. On January 5, locals became suspicious seeing two dogs scratching at that very spot. Then police came and recovered the body. On Tuesday, January 6, Shishir's autopsy was completed at the morgue of Midnapore Medical College.
