Sent for USG after death, probe reveals nursing home ran without licence

A probe into a patient death in Belda has revealed that a nursing home in West Midnapore was operating without a valid licence, health officials said.

An investigation into a patient death incident revealed that the nursing home was operating without a license. Allegations had been raised against the nursing home in Bakhrabad, Belda, for sending a patient for USG even after the patient's death. A complaint was filed at Belda police station regarding the Sunday morning incident. The West Midnapore district health department formed a three-member committee. The committee's report was submitted on Tuesday.

Licence renewal rejected over major violations

The health department stated that although the nursing home initially started operations with a license, it currently had no license. According to health department guidelines, the nursing home authorities failed to meet the conditions regarding doctors, nurses, and infrastructure required to run a nursing home. Therefore, the health department rejected the application for license renewal of the nursing home.

District Chief Medical Officer Soumyashankar Sarangi said, '"The license was not renewed due to lack of adequate infrastructure. This means the nursing home was operating without a license."' Police stated that an investigation has begun based on the complaint. All aspects will be thoroughly examined.
