The West Bengal Government has announced a major overhaul across top administrative posts, appointing IPS Supratim Sarkar as the new Police Commissioner of Kolkata. On Friday, January 30, the state government issued a notification announcing the appointment of Sarkar.
Along with the appointment of the new Police Commissioner, the state government also announced the relocation of Kolkata’s former Commissioner, Manoj Kumar Verma, along with four other senior officials.

The former Commissioner of Kolkata Police, IPS Manoj Kumar Verma, will be assuming the post of Director, Security, West Bengal. While ADG and IGP, Special Task Force of West Bengal, Vineet Kumar Goyal, is set to become the state's ADG (Law and Order) with additional charge of ADG, ACB of West Bengal.
ADG and IGP of Law and Order, West Bengal and ADG of Anti-Corruption Branch of West Bengal, IPS Jawed Shamim will be taking charge of the ADG Special Task Force, West Bengal, with additional charge of ADG Intelligence Bureau of West Bengal.

IPS Ajey Mukund Ranade, currently posted as the ADG and CG of Home Guards, West Bengal will be assuming the post of ADG Telecommunication of West Bengal. At the same time, IGP Criminal Investigation Department, West Bengal, IPS Vishal Garg will be assuming the office of ADG Cyber Cell of West Bengal.
This reshuffling in the top posts of West Bengal signals a wider administrative shift. The notification of the West Bengal Government also stated that the transfers of the top officials are going to be in effect from the date of assuming their charges.
