At least 10 people were killed, and 25 were injured in a school shooting in British Columbia, with the suspected attacker shot dead by police.

At least 10 people were killed and 25 others injured in a shooting at a school in British Columbia, authorities said. The attack took place on Tuesday afternoon at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in the Peace Region area. Several of the injured are reported to be in critical condition.

According to sources, the suspected attacker was shot dead by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Police said a woman with brown hair and brown clothing carried out the attack. Her body was recovered during the search operation.

Police launch probe, motive unclear

The RCMP confirmed that 25 injured individuals were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Students and staff were evacuated from the premises as a precautionary measure. However, the motive behind the shooting remains unknown. Police officer Chris Clark said investigators are working to determine the reason for the attack and whether anyone else was involved.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney described the incident as “tragic” and expressed condolences to the families of those killed. He also conveyed his support to the residents of British Columbia during this difficult time. He shares, "I join Canadians in grieving with those whose lives have been changed irreversibly today, and in gratitude for the courage and selflessness of the first responders who risked their lives to protect their fellow citizens. Our ability to come together in crisis is the best of our country — our empathy, our unity, and our compassion for each other."
