The entire Bollywood has now united to support actor Rajpal Yadav, the man whose comedy and performances have made millions of people laugh. The 53-year-old actor has surrendered at Tihar Jail in a decade-old ₹9 crore cheque bounce case linked to his 2010 directorial debut, Ata Pata Laapata.
Support pours in from Bollywood stars
On Tuesday, actor Sonu Sood came forward to help Rajpal Yadav after he got to know that Yadav was facing severe financial difficulties and had no one to support him financially and emotionally in the ₹9 crore cheque-bounce case.
On February 10, Sonu Sood assured on his X (formerly Twitter) that he is going to cast Rajpal Yadav in his upcoming projects and give him a signing amount to ease his financial strain. He urged the people to stretch out their hands for help. He further added that Rajpal Yadav should not have to go through the crisis alone.
"Rajpal Yadav is a gifted actor who has given years of unforgettable work to our industry. Sometimes life turns unfair, not because of talent, but because timing can be brutal. He will be part of my film, and I believe this is the moment for all of us, producers, directors, colleagues, to stand together. A small signing amount, adjustable against future work, is not charity; it's dignity," Sonu Sood stated.

Music producer and GemTunes Music owner Rao Inderjeet also stepped forward and promised ₹1.1 crore to support Rajpal Yadav. Speaking to IANS, he said, "Rajpal ji has given immeasurable joy to audiences and has been an integral part of Indian cinema. This support is not about money; it is about standing with a fellow human being in his time of need. Our industry is a family, and families hold each other when it matters most."

What led to Rajpal Yadav’s six-month jail sentence
Rajpal Yadav's legal trouble began in 2010 when he borrowed ₹5 crore to make his first film as a director. After the film failed at the box office, the liability reportedly increased to ₹9 crore due to accumulated dues and penalties. Several cheques issued by him to repay the amount bounced, leading to a criminal case.

On February 4, the Delhi High Court ordered him to surrender for failing to honour previous settlement commitments. Even though he offered to pay ₹25 lakh immediately, the court refused to dismiss its order.
He was sentenced to six months' imprisonment at Tihar Jail on February 5. He will next be seen in Akshay Kumar’s Bhoot Bangla, which is set to release on April 10.
