An Iranian aircraft was destroyed on the ground at Bushehr airport during a new wave of military strikes, Iranian media reported on Tuesday, as fighting between Iran, the United States, and Israel intensified across West Asia, NDTV reported.

The report comes amid a joint US-Israeli military campaign targeting Iranian strategic and military sites. The operation began on Saturday afternoon (India time) and has since expanded to multiple locations.

Airports and military sites targeted

Iran's Mehr News Agency reported that the area around Mehrabad Airport in Tehran was also struck. Images published by the agency showed grey smoke rising near what appeared to be a runway.

According to military accounts, US and Israeli forces launched ballistic missiles, including Tomahawk cruise missiles, from warships in the Persian Gulf. Air strikes were also carried out using advanced fighter aircraft such as the F-22 and F-35, as reported by NDTV.

The strikes followed the killing of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, in an earlier attack on his compound in central Tehran. Reports said the operation had been planned for months and involved tracking his convoy before the strike. US President Donald Trump later confirmed Khamenei's death.

In addition to leadership targets, the operation has focused on Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps command centres, missile facilities, and air defence systems.

Iran retaliates, regional tensions rise

Iran responded with missile barrages and drone attacks. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched strikes on Israeli positions, US military bases, and diplomatic missions. Shahed drones were widely used in the attacks. Some missiles reportedly hit civilian structures in neighbouring Gulf countries, NDTV said.

Missile exchanges continued late Tuesday, raising fears of a wider regional conflict.

The situation has further escalated after Iran shut down the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy route through which around 20 million barrels of crude oil pass daily. The closure has increased concerns over global energy supplies and the risk of broader economic disruption.

No immediate indication has been given on whether diplomatic efforts are underway to halt the fighting.
