The Donald Trump administration on February 5 (Thursday) announced a series of sweeping new price reductions on some of the highest-priced prescription drugs in America and introduced a government-sponsored website called 'TrumpRX'. This portal will help Americans buy medications easily at dramatically lower prices than they were paying before.
In announcing the new price drops, Trump referenced various promised price reductions from pharmaceutical manufacturers relating to the price drops for medication, including weight-loss medications, insulin, inhalers and fertility treatments.

'Nobody can believe it'
"You will see dramatic reductions in the cost of popular weight loss drugs known as GLP-1s. (Danish multinational pharmaceutical company) Novo Nordisk will be slashing the price as an example of Ozempic from more than $1,000 to $199. And the price of Wegovy from more than $1,300 to $199. Nobody can even believe it, a 578 per cent difference," Trump said according to a report by News18.
He continued, "Eli Lilly, who's been very helpful to us in getting this done, will be cutting the cost of its common insulin drug and medication from $200 to $25. Nobody can believe it, $200 to $25."
"AstraZeneca is slashing the price of a common inhaler from $458 to $51, a difference of nearly 800 per cent. And we're also delivering historic discounts for couples struggling with infertility as EMD Serrano will dramatically cut the cost of its most common IVF drugs," the US President said.
How the website will work
Trump pointed to the fertility medication Gonal-F as an example. He said, "A single dose of the most common IVF drug in the country will drop from the highest price in the developed world that we paid."
He continued, "The United States was subsidising everybody. We paid the highest to the lowest price in the world, which we'll show you very soon."
He wrapped up his comments by saying, "We have some very talented people coming up to show you how it's going to work and how the website works. All of these discounts and more will be available directly to consumers starting today at trumprx.gov."
