America is reeling under a devastating snowstorm, and its impact has now turned fatal. Amid severe weather disruptions, a private jet overturned on a runway while attempting to take off, catching fire immediately after. Seven people lost their lives in the tragic incident, which occurred on Sunday night at Bangor International Airport in Maine, United States.
Jet overturns during takeoff amid heavy snowfall
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the business jetāa Bombardier Challenger 600āwas attempting to take off amid heavy snowfall. However, just as the aircraft was leaving the runway, it lost control, overturned, and caught fire.
In the Air Traffic Control (ATC) audio recording, the pilotās panicked voice can be heard saying, āThe aircraft has overturned! Our aircraft has overturned!ā
There were a total of eight people on board the aircraft, including the pilot. Among them, seven died at the scene.
Airport shut till Wednesday
One crew member was rescued from the wreckage in critically injured condition and is currently undergoing medical treatment. His condition remains critical.
Following the accident, authorities decided to keep Bangor International Airport closed until Wednesday afternoon.

It is worth mentioning that the entire United States is currently affected by a severe snowstorm. On Sunday alone, at least 12,000 flights were cancelled across the country. Amid these widespread disruptions, the accident has raised serious questions about aviation safety during extreme weather conditions.
