Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday said he held a detailed telephonic conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, thanking him for what he described as India’s steadfast support during the ongoing conflict with Iran.
Speaking to the media from a location in Israel that was struck by an Iranian missile, Netanyahu confirmed the exchange and referred to PM Modi as a “great friend.”
“I spoke to our great friend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I spoke to him at great length yesterday. I thank him for standing with Israel, standing with the Jews and for the enormous friendship of the people of India. They are much admired and love,” Netanyahu said.
He added that he would not disclose details of the conversation but confirmed that he has been in touch with several leaders in the region and beyond amid escalating tensions. " I won’t get into the details of the conversations but I have spoken to him (Modi), and I have spoken to many other leaders in the region and beyond", he said.
Netanyahu’s remarks come at a time when Israel is facing retaliatory strikes from Iran following joint US and Israeli attacks on Iranian targets.
PM Modi emphasises civilian safety
Earlier, PM Modi had shared details of the call on X, stating that he discussed the evolving regional situation with his Israeli counterpart.
“Had a telephone call with PM Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the current regional situation. Conveyed India’s concerns over recent developments and emphasised the safety of civilians as a priority. India reiterates the need for an early cessation of hostilities,” Modi posted.
India’s response underlined the importance of de-escalation and protecting non-combatants as tensions continue to rise across West Asia.

Escalation after strikes on Iran
The conversation between the two leaders took place after US and Israeli strikes on Iran that resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In retaliation, Iran launched drones and missiles targeting Israeli and US military installations in the Gulf region. Strikes were also reported near key global aviation and business hubs, including Dubai and Doha, intensifying concerns over regional stability.
