Pakistani missile strikes hit several areas in eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province on Monday, killing at least three people and wounding 45.

The attacks targeted locations in and around Asadabad, the provincial capital, as cross-border tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban administration continued to escalate. Among the damaged sites was the Faculty of Education at Syed Jamaluddin Afghan University, which sustained structural damage.

Several villages and residential areas in and around the city were also struck, although there were no immediate reports that Taliban military positions in the area had been directly hit. Neither Taliban nor Pakistani officials publicly commented on the reported strikes, Amu reported.

The latest violence comes after weeks of border clashes between the two sides, with both countries accusing each other of harboring or supporting militants operating across the frontier.

The reported strike adds to a volatile period in Pakistan-Afghanistan relations. The border fighting followed a brief pause in hostilities. Pakistan has accused the Afghan Taliban of sheltering militants responsible for attacks inside Pakistan, a charge Kabul denies.

India factor grows

India remains a watchpoint in the wider Pakistan-Afghanistan equation rather than a direct party to the fighting.

Reuters reported that Afghanistan has been seeking Indian investments and goods, while India continues to operate the Chabahar port in Iran, giving Kabul an alternative route that reduces dependence on Pakistan’s Karachi port.
