US President Donald Trump on Sunday released the first images of the suspected gunman taken into custody after a security scare during the White House Correspondentsâ Association dinner. The incident happened on Saturday night, prompting an immediate evacuation of Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and several senior officials from the venue.
According to authorities, the shooting occurred outside the ballroom where the event was being held. While gunfire was reported, officials have not yet provided a detailed account of how events unfolded. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
Suspect in custody, investigation underway
During a press briefing shortly after the incident, Trump said the individual was armed with âmultiple weaponsâ and confirmed that the suspect is from California. In a separate social media post, he shared a video clip that appears to show the individual moving through a security checkpoint before being detained.

âI fought like hell to stayâ
Trump emphasised his intention to continue with the event despite the disruption. âIâve fought like hell to stay,â he said, adding that he would not allow âthese sick people, thugs, horrible peopleâ to derail proceedings.

The President also linked the incident to a broader pattern, stating it was ânot the first time a Republican has been attacked.â He further remarked, âIâve studied assassinations, the people that do the most, make the biggest impact, they are the ones they go after.â
