Switzerland was rocked by an explosion on the first day of the New Year after a fire broke out at a bar in the popular tourist destination of Crans-Montana. The incident occurred during New Year celebrations, triggering panic at the venue. According to news agency reports, multiple deaths have been confirmed, and the death toll is feared to rise.
Videos of the burning bar have surfaced on social media, showing the establishment engulfed in flames. News Ei Samay has not verified the authenticity of the footage. Citing BBC sources, a Swiss news agency reported that the fire may have started due to fireworks used during a concert, although police have not officially confirmed the cause.

Cause of explosion still unclear
According to an AFP report, Swiss police said the exact source of the explosion remains unknown. However, authorities fear multiple casualties, and several people have been injured. News agency sources said more than 100 people were present at the bar at the time of the explosion.
There are concerns that tourists may form a large share of the victims, given the timing of the incident during peak holiday celebrations.

Rescue operations underway
Rescue operations were launched immediately, with police and fire brigade teams rushing to the spot. Multiple helicopters have also been deployed to assist in evacuation and rescue efforts.
Crans-Montana is a high-end ski resort located in Switzerland's Valais region and attracts large numbers of foreign tourists throughout the year, especially during the winter holiday season.
