The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a strong stand after the controversy involving Riyan Parag in IPL 2026. The board has made it clear that maintaining discipline and decorum is essential in a tournament of such global stature. The issue arose when Parag was seen vaping inside the dressing room during a match, an act that goes against league rules and public conduct standards. The incident quickly gained attention and sparked criticism. Parag was fined 25% of his match fee and handed a demerit point. He accepted the sanction without contest.
BCCI warns teams to maintain decorum
BCCI officials stated that they have reached a “saturation point” with repeated disciplinary issues. A clear message has been sent to all franchises that such behaviour will not be tolerated.

I think this is totally a situation that can be avoided. I want that players should not always get trapped in such things. I don't really want that for a young player, and it's a bit sensitive too.

The board emphasised that responsibility does not lie with players alone. Teams, including support staff and management, are equally accountable for maintaining standards. It also indicated that stricter penalties could be introduced if similar incidents continue. Protecting the IPL’s reputation remains a top priority.
Franchises under increased scrutiny
The controversy has also put the Rajasthan Royals under the spotlight, as this is not the first issue involving the team this season. With the IPL being one of the most widely followed cricket leagues in the world, the BCCI is keen to ensure that its image remains intact.
