Google is rolling out a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature that can help users book restaurant tables directly through Search. The update is part of its AI Mode and aims to make the reservation process quicker and more convenient.
How the feature works
The new feature will allow users to describe exactly what they are looking for in simple language. This can include details such as cuisine, location, date, time, and number of people. Once the request is entered, the AI scans multiple platforms to find suitable options. Instead of opening several apps or websites, the system brings together available choices in one place. It checks real-time availability and shows options that match the userâs preferences.

Booking made simpler
After presenting the results, the AI provides direct links to complete the reservation. In some cases, users may be able to book instantly if the restaurant is connected to Googleâs reservation system. Otherwise, they are guided to partner platforms to finish the process. The feature works with services like Zomato, Swiggy, and EazyDiner, allowing users to compare and book tables without switching between apps.
A shift towards âAgenticâ AI
This new feature is a component of Google's AI Mode, built upon the Gemini framework. Previously, a search query would yield a list of links, requiring you to manually sift through them to find the necessary information. Now, however, this system is capable of understanding your intent and taking direct action on your behalf. For instance, if you type, "Book a table at a rooftop restaurant in South Delhi for tomorrow," the AI interprets your request and presents options tailored to your specific needs. It accesses various platforms to gather real-time data on table availability.

What is agentic AI
This feature represents a major stride toward Agentic AI. This signifies that AI is no longer limited to merely providing information; it will now execute multi-step tasks on your behalf. Whereas you previously had to open and cross-reference multiple apps to make comparisons, the AI now handles this entire process autonomously, delivering a direct and actionable result.
What it means for user
The feature is designed to save time and reduce the effort involved in planning a meal outing. By combining search, comparison, and booking into a single step, Google aims to simplify the entire experience. Currently, the feature is being rolled out in India and other regions and may expand further in the future with additional booking capabilities.
