After two consecutive days of increase, gold and silver prices dropped significantly in one go. Over the past two days, pure gold prices have risen by nearly 10,000 rupees. Silver prices had also climbed close to 20,000 rupees. The prices of these two metals had jumped after the central government increased import duty from 6 per cent to 15 per cent. However, Friday's price decline in Kolkata's market brought some relief to jewellery lovers.

On Friday, the price of 24-carat pure gold per 10 grams decreased by 3,150 rupees. The price of 22-carat gold per 10 grams also fell by 11,000 rupees. Meanwhile, silver prices per kilogram dropped by 19,000 rupees.

You won't be able to buy gold at these exact rates when you go to the market. It will cost slightly more than these rates. This is because GST and jewellery-making charges will be added to these prices. While GST is fixed at 3 per cent, the charges may vary from shop to shop.
