UPSC Prelims result 2026 declared, over 13,000 candidates qualify; here's how to check your score

Candidates who appeared for the UPSC Civil Services Prelims 2026 can now check their results at upsc.gov.in as the commission shortlists over 13,000 candidates for the next stage.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has declared the Civil Services Preliminary Examination Result 2026. Candidates who appeared for the examination can now check their roll numbers on the official UPSC website, upsc.gov.in.

The result marks the completion of the first stage of one of the country's most competitive recruitment examinations. Candidates who have qualified in the preliminary round will now be eligible to appear for the Civil Services (Main) Examination 2026.

Over 13,000 candidates shortlisted

According to the commission, a total of 13,343 candidates have been shortlisted for the next stage of the selection process.

The preliminary examination was conducted on May 24, 2026, at centres across the country. It consisted of two objective-type papers carrying a combined maximum of 400 marks.

UPSC has clarified that the candidature of all shortlisted candidates remains provisional.

What qualified candidates need to do next

In line with the examination rules, qualified candidates will be required to complete several formalities before appearing for the Civil Services (Main) Examination 2026.

These include submission of the Rs 200 examination fee for admission to the Main examination, except for exempted categories such as Female, PwBD, SC and ST candidates.

Candidates will also be required to submit or update details related to scribes, assistive devices, large-font question papers for the Main examination, and cadre preferences.

Window opens from June 19

The commission said the online window for submission and updation of these details will open on June 19 and remain available until June 28, 2026.

Candidates are advised to complete all required formalities within the stipulated period to avoid any issues during the next stage of the examination process.

How to check UPSC Prelims Result 2026

Candidates can check their result by visiting upsc.gov.in and clicking on the UPSC Prelims Result 2026 link on the homepage. After entering the required login details, candidates can view and download their results for future reference.

UPSC also informed candidates that marks, cut-off marks and answer keys for the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026 will be released only after the entire Civil Services Examination and Indian Forest Service Examination processes are completed.

The recruitment drive is being conducted to fill 1,016 vacancies.
