Jadavpur University has welcomed Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari's reported intervention on the university's long-pending demand for Institution of Eminence (IoE) status, describing it as a positive and encouraging step for higher education in West Bengal.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Vice-Chancellor of Jadavpur University said the university had noted with "deep gratitude and satisfaction" reports that the Chief Minister raised the issue during a recent meeting of NITI Aayog.

University says renewed support could revive long-pending bid for elite status
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Chiranjib Bhattacharjee expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and the state government for actively supporting the university's pursuit of Institution of Eminence status. According to the statement, the government's initiative reflects a clear commitment to strengthening higher education and recognising Jadavpur University's academic excellence, research legacy and global potential.
The university also thanked Union Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar for what it described as his constructive approach and positive interest in the institution's development.
The statement noted that Jadavpur University has established itself as one of India's premier higher education institutions through decades of contributions in academics, research, technological innovation and nation-building. However, it said an earlier opportunity to secure Institution of Eminence status could not be realised because of various factors, including inadequate financial support and lack of policy coordination.
As a result, the university argued, West Bengal missed the opportunity to host an internationally recognised Institution of Eminence. The Vice-Chancellor expressed hope that the current initiative would help address that missed opportunity.

The Vice-Chancellor said Jadavpur University is confident that with support from both the state and central governments, a new chapter can be opened in the institution's development. The statement expressed hope that obtaining Institution of Eminence status would help the university emerge as a leading centre of knowledge, research and innovation, not only for West Bengal but for the country as a whole.
