'Ranbir can do anything': Imtiaz Ali backs his Lord Rama casting strongly

Imtiaz Ali praised Ranbir Kapoor's versatility and said the actor can bring "reality" to Lord Rama's character in Ramayana.

Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali has expressed confidence in Ranbir Kapoor's portrayal of Lord Rama in Nitesh Tiwari's upcoming epic Ramayana. The director, who has worked with Ranbir in Rockstar and Tamasha, said he believes the actor has the range and depth needed to take on such a significant role.

As per NDTV movie's report, speaking to Filmibeat, Imtiaz Ali praised Ranbir's ability to transform himself for different characters and said the role could become an important addition to the actor's career. His comments come amid growing anticipation surrounding the film, which is one of the most talked-about projects in Indian cinema.

'He can do anything as an actor'

Sharing his thoughts on Ranbir's casting, Imtiaz Ali said to NDTV movies, "Ranbir can do anything as an actor. He should do different roles, and when he does different roles, he'll become them. He is a pure actor, and I hope he does all kinds of roles."

The filmmaker also spoke about why he feels Ranbir is suited for the role of Lord Rama.

"I am very happy he is doing Lord Rama's role because he can bring a certain effect or reality to the character. It will be nice to approach Lord Rama's character in a humane and personal way," he said.

Imtiaz Ali further suggested that portraying such a character could have a lasting impact on the actor personally as well as professionally. According to reports, he believes Ranbir tends to absorb qualities from the roles he plays, making the experience potentially enriching for him.

Buzz around Ramayana continues to grow

Ramayana has remained in the spotlight ever since its first glimpse and promotional material were unveiled earlier this year. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. The project is planned as a two-part cinematic adaptation of the ancient epic.
