Salman Khan, the Bollywood celebrity, has filed a legal suit against the producers of the movie Kala Hiran, who he claims have borrowed heavily from the concept of his controversial blackbuck hunting case and are violating his legal and personal rights in the process.

As per the notice that was sent out by lawyers representing the actor, the producers of the movie have been advised to discontinue with the development, shooting and promotion of the movie immediately. The notice sent to casting director Akshay Pandey mentions that the producers are pitching the movie idea as one that revolves around the blackbuck hunting case involving Salman Khan.

Legal team raises concerns over ongoing court proceedings

One of the key arguments made in the notice relates to the status of the blackbuck case, which remains pending before the Rajasthan High Court. Salman Khan's legal representatives have argued that a film based on the matter could influence public perception and interfere with the administration of justice.

The notice states that any dramatized or sensationalised depiction of the case may create prejudice against the actor and affect his right to a fair trial. According to the legal team, the actor has neither authorised nor consented to the use of his name, persona or events allegedly connected to him in connection with the project.

Allegations of personality rights violation

The notice further claims that the proposed film contains references that could make Salman Khan identifiable to audiences. His lawyers have alleged that such usage would amount to a violation of his personality rights, privacy rights and publicity rights.

The legal notice also accuses the filmmakers of attempting to commercially benefit from the actor's popularity and public image by creating an association between the project and the high-profile case.

In addition, the project has been described as potentially defamatory, with the legal team arguing that any misleading portrayal could adversely affect Khan's reputation and professional standing.

Demand for apology and immediate halt

DSK Legal has used the notice to demand immediate cessation of all developments and promotions related to the movie from Akshay Pandey and all others involved in the movie. This was accompanied by a request for a written apology without any conditions.

As per the notice, non-compliance would lead to criminal and civil lawsuits along with demands for damages and compensation.

A new addition to a long-standing controversy

The case involving the blackbucks has been among those few cases involving Salman Khan that have attracted a lot of attention in the past three decades.

However, this latest incident will mark yet another chapter in the long-stretching controversy. This time the focus is no more on the legal aspect but has shifted to issues such as personality rights, creativity, and the limitations on the portrayal of actual incidents in films.
