After the massive success of Dhurandhar, Ranveer Singh is gearing up for his next big project, Pralay. The upcoming film, set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies, has already sparked curiosity. Producer Hansal Mehta recently shared key details about the film in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India.

Who is behind Pralay?

Pralay will be directed by Jai Mehta, who earlier co-directed Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story alongside his father, Hansal Mehta. The film is being backed by Hansal’s production house, True Story Films, in collaboration with Ranveer Singh’s banner, Ma Kasam Films. According to reports, the project is mounted on a budget of ₹300 crore.

What is the story about?

The screenplay has been written by Jai Mehta and Vishal Kapoor. It explores a world devastated by a zombie outbreak. Addressing comparisons with José Saramago’s 1995 novel Blindness, Hansal clarified that the film is not based on the book.

“It’s not an adaptation. Jay and Vishal Kapoor have written the original story. Further, I think a book like Blindness is not easily adapted to film. I had seen the 2008 film adaptation (starring Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo), and it wasn't great. Writers like Saramago or Salman Rushdie... I feel they are best experienced on paper. Their books lose all their magic when interpreted for cinema,” Hansal said.

Who else stars in the film?

Kalyani Priyadarshan has been confirmed as the female lead. The actor, daughter of filmmaker Priyadarshan, is coming off the success of her recent film Lokah.

When does production begin?

The film is scheduled to go on floors in mid-2026. An international crew has also been brought on board, suggesting a large-scale production approach.

With a fresh setting and a high-budget backing, Pralay marks a new genre outing for Ranveer Singh, adding to the anticipation around the project.
