Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna starrer Cocktail 2 was released in theatres this Friday. The Homi Adjania film is a sequel to his 2012 hit Cocktail, which starred Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Diana Penty.

Kapoor's second theatrical release of 2026 has drawn significant attention after receiving an A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). He assured fans that the film could be watched with family and added that he is unsure why Cocktail 2 was given an adults-only rating.

Before granting the certification, the CBFC reportedly asked the filmmakers to make a few audio related modifications while keeping the visuals unchanged. The board also directed the makers to replace every mention of the word "Agni" in the film's dialogues with "Diya." Another significant change concerned the phrase "Jew on the run," which was ordered to be censored. However, the certification document did not specify the context in which the expression was used in the film, per a report by Hindustan Times.

Trailers spark rumours; makers clarify

For months, rumours surrounding Cocktail 2 suggested that Rashmika Mandanna and Kriti Sanon's characters would share a romantic relationship. The film's trailer further fuelled speculation, with many viewers picking up on the word "threesome" and wondering whether the story explored a polygamous relationship. However, the cast was quick to dismiss such theories ahead of the film's release.

According to Hindustan Times, Kriti clarified, “There is no lesbian story,” while Rashmika chimed in, “I know, we do have that chemistry.” Kriti further added, “We are three straight people, guys. It's only an emotional threesome, not a physical one.”
