One of the most renowned directors in television comedy in America who directed the popular series including F.R.I.E.N.D.S, Cheers, Frasier and Will & Grace, James Burrows is no more. At the age of 85, he breathed his last.

In a statement released by his family to People, it was mentioned that Burrows has departed from this world after having spent his last moments with people dear to him. The family did not disclose the cause of death or provide further details regarding the circumstances surrounding his passing.

With a career that has spanned for more than five decades and which included directing 1,000 episodes on television, Burrows has left behind a great legacy.

Having started his career way back in 1974 in The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Burrows established himself as one of the most renowned television directors. Among others, Burrows was connected with famous sitcoms including Taxi, Cheers, F.R.I.E.N.D.S, Frasier, Will & Grace, The Bob Newhart Show and Mike & Molly.

His work earned widespread recognition from both audiences and critics. Burrows won 11 Emmy Awards during his career, including consecutive Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series honours for Taxi in 1980 and 1981.

He was also the recipient of five Directors Guild of America Awards and was honoured with the Directors Guild of America's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015 for his contribution to television.
