'Dhurandhar: The Revenge' beats 'Baahubali 2: The Conclusion', sets new North America record

A nine-year-old North American box office record, held by Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, has fallen. Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar: The Revenge, starring Ranveer Singh, has crossed $22 million in North America, surpassing Baahubali 2's $20 million, according to Box Office Mojo. The film released on March 19.

The record-breaking performance has drawn warm praise from an unexpected corner; the makers of Baahubali 2 themselves. Both the production team and the film's producer publicly celebrated the milestone on X.

The Baahubali team reacts

Shobu Yarlagadda, producer of Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, was among the first to respond after Venky Box Office reported that Dhurandhar 2 had claimed the new all-time North America gross record. He wrote on X, "Yesterday I watched #Dhurandhar2 TheRevenge and needless to say I loved it and thoroughly enjoyed the film! Happy to see it breaking all the records and setting new box office benchmarks in India and worldwide! Congratulations to the entire team! (claps emojis)."

The official Baahubali page on X then shared its own message in response, posting, "Congratulations to @AdityaDharFilms and the entire team of #Dhurandhar2 TheRevenge on breaking the 9-year-old records of #Baahubali2 and setting new box office benchmarks in India, USA and worldwide."

The milestone also sparked an outpouring of emotion from fans across social media. One user on X wrote in the comment section of the official Baahubali page, "Bahubali walked so Dhurandhar could run. Massive respect to both for laying the foundation as well as massive congratulations to Team #Dhurandhar2TheRevenge for breaking new boundaries, so celebrate cause it is not just theirs but Indian cinema's moment."

Another added, "Baahubali was about civilizational revival, dhurandhar national revival of willpower to fight. Both will remain box office legend. @BaahubaliMovie @AdityaDharFilms @Shobu_ @republic @timesnow"

In Dhurandhar: The Revenge, directed by Aditya Dhar, Ranveer Singh plays Indian spy Jaskirat Singh Rangi, who transforms into Hamza Ali Mazari as he rises through Lyari’s underworld while working to dismantle a terror network in Pakistan. The film’s chart-topping music is composed by Shashwat Sachdev.
