‘No symptoms’:Olivia Munn reveals cancer diagnosis, opens up about her journey

Olivia Munn shares her cancer journey, treatment decisions, and family support while raising awareness about early detection and health risks.

Olivia Munn is an American actress, TV host, and author known for shows and movies like The Newsroom, X-Men: Apocalypse, and Magic Mike. She started her career on Attack of the Show! and later worked on The Daily Show. Recently, she has been speaking openly about cancer awareness after her diagnosis. Olivia Munn has opened up about her breast cancer journey, revealing how she was diagnosed despite having no visible symptoms. The actress discovered she had Stage 1 breast cancer in April 2023 after taking a lifetime risk assessment test, which showed a high-risk score of 37.3 per cent.

Diagnosis and treatment

According to CBS Sunday Morning, Olivia quickly took action after finding out about her diagnosis and chose to go through several medical procedures. She had a double mastectomy, an ovariectomy, and a partial hysterectomy to lower her future risk and stay healthy. Speaking to CBS Sunday Morning, she said, “No symptoms. And I had a clear mammogram and a clear ultrasound."

How Munn help spread awareness

After her diagnosis, she stayed strong and went through major surgeries like a double mastectomy, ovariectomy, and partial hysterectomy. Now, her risk score is zero. Instead of staying quiet, she shared her journey online and told people about the risk test. As per CBS News, after she spoke about it, 4,000 per cent more women started taking the test.

What Munn said about her husband and kids

Olivia started dating John Mulaney in 2021, and they got married in 2024. He supported her during her treatment and was always with her. She said, "There's no better person in the world to me than my husband. He is-- I mean, you've met him. He wanted to come to every single doctor's appointment. He had his little notebook. You know? And he's got his notebook where he writes all of his ideas for jokes and anything that comes to him through the day," she said. She also said he had noted down things about cancer and treatment, which helped keep a positive mood. They have two children, son Malcolm and daughter Méi June. Munn had shared, "My Golden Ox baby, Malcolm Hiệp Mulaney," while Mulaney said, “He has his whole life ahead of him. He hasn't even tried seltzer yet. I'm very in love with him and his whole deal. " Announcing her daughter’s birth, she wrote, "Méi June Mulaney came into the world September 14, 2024, the year of the dragon. I had so many profound emotions about not being able to carry my daughter. When I first met our gestational surrogate, we spoke mother to mother. She showed me so much grace and understanding; I knew I had found a real-life angel.”
