After Deepika Padukone, now Sonakshi Sinha has become embroiled in controversy over visiting a mosque. This has caused an uproar on social media. Actually, on October 10 this year, Sonakshi Sinha and her husband Zaheer Iqbal spent a special moment in Abu Dhabi on the occasion of Karva Chauth.
The couple visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, where Sonakshi shared some wonderful pictures on Instagram. The couple, who tied the knot in June 2024, seemed to be enjoying a peaceful getaway.
But these very pictures gave birth to controversy. Someone on social media alleged that the 'Dabangg' actress apparently entered the mosque wearing shoes, hurting religious sentiments. However, Sonakshi did not remain silent. She gave a counter-reply, clarified her position, and stated that she is always conscious about maintaining respect in religious places.
However, a section of the internet turned critical when one troll accused Sonakshi of disrespecting religious sentiments by wearing footwear inside the mosque.
Under her post, a user commented, “Jutton ke saat masjid mai jana bohot barra gunnah hai." (Going to the mosque wearing shoes is a very big sin.)
Sonakshi, who is known for responding to negativity with composure, replied with clarity and grace, setting the record straight, “Isilye jooton ke saat andar nahi gaye. Dhyan se dekho, masjid ke bahar hi hai hum. Andar jaane se pehle unhone humein joote rakhne ki jagah dikhayi aur utaar diye. Itna toh humein bhi aata hai. Chaliye, ab aage badhiye." ('That's exactly why we didn't go inside wearing shoes. Look carefully, we are standing outside the mosque. Before going inside, they showed us where to keep our shoes, and we removed and kept our shoes. We know at least this much. Come on, move on now.)
Sharing photos from her visit, Sonakshi captioned her post, “Found a little sukoon, right here in Abu Dhabi."
Sonakshi facing criticism
Sonakshi has been the subject of internet trolling ever since she married Zaheer Iqbal due to their interfaith union. She nevertheless maintains her composure and confidence in the face of the criticism.
In an interview with Hauterrfly, Sonakshi shared one insight that their religion has never been a point of conflict in their relationship. Instead, both Sonakshi and Zaheer accept and respect each other's beliefs and cultural practices, “I respect them and their culture, and they respect me and mine. That’s how it should be," she said.
She also clarified, “Under the best circumstances, the best way to get married was through a special marriage act where I, as a Hindu woman, don’t need to change my religion, and he, as a Muslim man, can remain a Muslim man. There was never a question like, ‘Are you going to convert?’ We love each other, and we’re getting married. It was as simple as that."
Sonakshi Sinha will be seen in the film 'Jatadhari', which has been shot in both Hindi and Telugu languages. In this film, she is accompanied by Sudheer Babu, Shilpa Shirodkar, Indira Krishnan, and others. The film will be released on November 7 this year.
