Actor Ranveer Singh reportedly left behind the project Don 3 due to clashes on issues relating to the filmās mood and content, where it has now come to light that there were conflicts related to the use of violent and strong language in the film.
As reported by the Free Press Journal, Ranveer wanted to portray a more aggressive character for his role in the movie, reasoning that todayās audience prefers dark and violent stories, and therefore he had insisted on using "strong language" to align the film with current cinematic trends.
Creative clash over Donās āDNAā
Director Farhan Akhtar, however, reportedly opposed the shift in tone. Sources cited in the report said Akhtar was keen to retain the essence of the franchise, which, even in its earlier iterations led by Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, did not rely on explicit language.

āFarhan very much wanted to make the film he originally set out to make,ā a source told the publication, adding that the filmmaker did not agree to alter the script under pressure.
The disagreement eventually led Singh to exit the project in 2025, ending months of speculation around delays and creative differences.
Financial implications and production delays
The fallout also had financial implications. Reports earlier suggested that the filmās production banner, Excel Entertainment, had sought compensation of around ā¹40 crore, citing pre-production costs and scheduling disruptions. Singh is believed to have agreed to return a portion of the amount.

Speaking recently to Hollywood Reporter India, Akhtar addressed the broader uncertainty around film projects. āNothing can be taken for granted till you actually have it on film,ā he said, reflecting on the challenges surrounding Don 3.
Franchise legacy vs changing audience tastes
However, throughout the years, the Don franchise has always been known to maintain that balance between style and subtlety. The reported request of Singh for a grittier take on the film reflects the trend in Bollywood wherein movies with intense plots and dark themes have become popular among the masses.
It is yet to be seen whether Don 3 proceeds with its updated approach or a fresh lead.
