The much-awaited sequel The Devil Wears Prada 2, starring Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep, is set to release in theatres on May 1. Even before hitting screens, the film has generated noticeable traction in India’s advance booking market.
Trade reports cited by Moneycontrol indicate that the film has already sold nearly 23,000 tickets across major national cinema chains. Out of these, close to 18,000 tickets have been booked through PVR Inox, while Cinepolis accounts for around 5,000 seats.

Metro cities drive demand
Early trends suggest that metropolitan cities are leading the demand. This pattern is often seen with Hollywood releases, where urban centres contribute significantly to advance bookings.
With a few days still left for release, ticket sales are expected to pick up further. Based on current momentum, trade analysts estimate that the film could earn around Rs 7 crore in India, including revenue from paid previews, per Moneycontrol report.
Familiar faces return
A key factor behind the buzz is the return of the original cast. Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt are back in their roles, bringing back the characters that made the first film widely popular.
Miranda Priestly’s character continues to hold strong recall among audiences, adding to the anticipation around the sequel. The film revisits the fashion world setting, while introducing new challenges within that space.
The sequel is set to follow Miranda Priestly as she approaches retirement. The story also brings together familiar dynamics, with Andy Sachs reuniting with her, alongside Emily Charlton, who now appears as a rival figure.

Additional buzz around the film
The film has also gained attention off-screen. Producer Karan Johar recently shared an Instagram post about seeing the actors in Japan. He is now planning an exclusive watch party for the sequel in Mumbai, adding to the conversation around the film.
With steady advance bookings and strong recall value, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is heading into release with solid early momentum in India.
