Antoine Fuqua’s Michael, the biographical drama based on global music icon Michael Jackson, has crossed ₹23 crore net at the Indian box office within six days of release. Headlined by Jaafar Jackson in his acting debut, the film has managed a stable theatrical run despite facing competition from multiple releases in cinemas.

The makers also marked the latest milestone with an Instagram post, celebrating the film’s growing box office performance and audience response. The social media update added to the buzz surrounding the film as it continued its first-week run.

Strong opening for the biopic

Michael opened with ₹3.70 crore net in India. The film had already collected ₹1.70 crore through paid preview shows on the previous Thursday, giving it an early advantage before the official release.

The opening was considered a solid start for a Hollywood biographical drama in India, especially one centred on a music legend rather than a franchise or action spectacle. The film gained additional momentum over the weekend as audience turnout increased.

Weekend jump boosts total

Michael collected ₹5.25 crore net on Saturday, followed by ₹5.85 crore on Sunday. The strong weekend numbers significantly lifted its total and helped the film enter the weekdays on a steady footing.

The rise suggested that fans of Michael Jackson, music lovers and curious moviegoers turned up in larger numbers after the initial release day. The weekend performance also placed Michael among the stronger recent Hollywood releases in India outside the superhero and action genres.

Midweek dip on day 6

As expected, collections dipped after the weekend rush. The film earned ₹2.25 crore net on Monday before stabilising further during the week. On Wednesday, which marked day 6 of release, Michael collected ₹2.30 crore net in India. Though lower than the weekend figures, the number reflected a reasonable hold during the weekday period. With this, the total India net collection reached ₹23.45 crore.

Occupancy and competition

The movie, Michael, registered around 10 per cent occupancy on Wednesday, showing moderate weekday turnout. The film is also competing with Hindi releases such as Dhurandhar 2 and Bhooth Bangla, both of which are drawing audiences in theatres. Despite this crowded market, Michael has maintained steady numbers.

Jaafar Jackson draws attention

A major talking point around the film has been Jaafar Jackson’s portrayal of Michael Jackson. Viewers have been discussing his resemblance to the late singer, along with his dance movements and screen presence.

The film has also benefited from Michael Jackson’s long-standing popularity in India, where his music continues to have a strong fan following.

What comes next

With the first week nearly complete, all eyes are now on the second weekend. If collections rise again, Michael could continue its steady run and add significantly to its India box office total.

Crossing ₹23 crore in under a week has given the film a strong base, while the makers’ Instagram celebration reflects confidence in its continued performance.
