‘He was everything to me’: Hema Malini pens emotional tribute to Dharmendra in first post since his death

Hema Malini shares a heartfelt first message remembering Dharmendra, calling him her greatest strength and an irreplaceable presence in her life.

Three days after the demise of veteran actor Dharmendra, his wife and fellow screen legend, Hema Malini, shared her first heartfelt message, remembering him not just as a star but as the centre of her personal world. Dharmendra passed away on November 24 in Mumbai at the age of 89.

'He was everything to me’

In her emotional note, Hema Malini wrote, "He was many things to me. Loving Husband, adoring Father of our two girls, Esha & Ahaana, Friend, Philosopher, Guide, Poet, my ‘go to’ person in all times of need - in fact, he was everything to me! And always has been through good times and bad."

She also mentioned that Dharmendra connected warmly with everyone around her, saying that he won the affection of her family by being easygoing and very interested in each of their lives. "He endeared himself to all my family members with his easy, friendly ways, always showing affection and interest in all of them", she wrote.

Remembering an icon whose humility shone through

Hema spoke about the stature of Dharmendra as a public figure, describing him as "a unique icon unequalled among all the legends," while highlighting the humility that kept him grounded despite his towering fame. She wrote that his achievements in cinema and the love he received from audiences would "last forever."

A loss that leaves a lasting void

Opening up about the depth of her grief, Hema shared that it is an “indescribable” void she has lived with and will carry for the rest of her life. She shared how she now holds dear the innumerable memories they created over decades, moments she finds herself returning to in this time of loss.

Today, Hema Malini posted some unseen family moments on Instagram, writing, "Some lovely family moments… simply treasured photo. I know it is a surfeit of photos but these have not been published and my emotions are unfolding as I see these."

Dharmendra, widely remembered as Bollywood's 'He-Man' and one of the industry's most loved stars, was cremated in Mumbai on Monday. He leaves behind Hema Malini, his first wife Prakash Kaur, and his six children—Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Esha Deol, Ahana Deol, Ajeeta, and Vijeta.
