'It was a wonderful journey': Arijit Singh announces retirement from playback singing

Arijit Singh has announced that he will no longer take new playback singing assignments, calling it the end of a "wonderful journey."

Singer Arijit Singh has announced that he is stepping away from playback singing. The announcement came through a post on his official Instagram handle.

'I am calling it off'

Arijit shared the news in a New Year message to his listeners. In his Instagram post, he wrote, "Hello, Happy new year to all. I want to thank you for giving me so much of love all these years as listeners. I am happy to announce that I am not gonna be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey."

Before the Instagram post, Arijit had hinted at the decision on his private X account, Atmojoarjalojo. In a series of tweets, he reflected on his journey and future plans. He wrote, "GOD has been really kind to me. I am a fan of good music and in future will be learning more and do more on my own as a small little artist. Thanks again for all your support," Hindustan Times reported.

Arijit Singh will continue to make music

After the announcement, many fans expressed concern and confusion. Arijit responded by clearing the air. "Just to be clear that I won't stop making music," Hindustan Times reported.

He reassured listeners that his existing work will still reach them. "I still have to finish some pending commitments, will finish them, so you might get some releases this year," Arijit said in another X post.

Fans reacted strongly to the news. One wrote, "This is a Virat Kohli test retirement level of shock." Another fan commented, "As he has said, he will be making music, but as a vocalist, he won't be available. Should've selected only a few songs to sing, but it's his call. I wish him the best."
