Who was Prashant Tamang? Singer-actor, Darjeeling boy, passes away at 43

Singer-actor and Indian Idol Season 3 winner Prashant Tamang died at his New Delhi residence at the age of 43, with a suspected cardiac arrest, triggering an outpouring of grief from fans and fellow artists.

Singer-actor Prashant Tamang passed away at his residence in New Delhi on Sunday, at the age of 43. He gained prominence after winning the third season of Indian Idol.

The singer was reportedly found unresponsive at his residence earlier today. While the authorities are awaiting a medical confirmation of the cause of death, primary investigations reveal that Tamang suffered a cardiac arrest. The exact cause behind the singer's death is yet to be ascertained.

Fans and members of the musical fraternity have been shocked at the death of the singer, as he has no prior health issues. Prashant Tamang had recently returned to Delhi after a performance in Arunachal Pradesh.

Who was Prashant Tamang?

A son of West Bengal, Prashant Tamang was born on January 4, 1983, in Darjeeling. After losing his father at a young age, Tamang joined the Kolkata Police as a constable. His love for music lived on despite professional responsibilities, and he performed for the Kolkata Police orchestra.

Tamang shot to fame in 2007 after winning the third season of Indian Idol. His win catapulted him to national and even international fame, as Tamang became a household name throughout India and Nepal. His debut album 'Dhanyavad' was released after his win.

Prashant Tamang performed in several nations. He even starred in a number of Nepali films like 'Gorkha Paltan', 'Angalo Yo Maya Ko', and 'Nishani'. On television, he made a cameo appearance in 'Amber Dhara' and even starred in the much-acclaimed web series 'Paatal Lok 2'.

Tributes pour in for Prashant Tamang

Aggrieved at Tamang's death, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee posted on X, "Saddened by the sudden and untimely demise today of Prashant Tamang, the popular singer of 'Indian Idol' fame and an artist of national renown. His roots in our Darjeeling hills and one-time association with Kolkata Police made him particularly dear to us in Bengal. I convey my condolences to his family, friends, and countless followers."

Nagaland minister Temjen Imna Along wrote on X, "To me, Prashant was more than a talented artist, he was a dear friend with a kind heart and a beautiful soul. His humility and warmth always stood out, no matter how far life took him. Though he is no longer with us, his voice, his smile and the memories we shared will always stay with me. Rest in peace, my friend. You will be deeply missed and fondly remembered."

Fans and music lovers have expressed their grief at the death of the singer.
