The teaser for HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series has offered fans their first glimpse into a fresh adaptation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The show revisits Harry’s early life with the Dursleys, where he faces neglect and bullying, before the arrival of the life-changing Hogwarts letter.
The footage introduces Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, alongside key characters who shape his journey. Nick Frost appears as Hagrid, guiding Harry into the wizarding world, while John Lithgow takes on the role of Albus Dumbledore. The trio of friends is completed by Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger.
Focus on book-accurate storytelling
The series aims to stay closer to J. K. Rowling’s original books than the earlier film adaptations. With a longer runtime, the show is expected to include more detailed moments and character arcs that were not explored fully on screen before. Production is currently underway at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK.

The project is led by showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod, with Rowling also serving as an executive producer alongside Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts and David Heyman.
Mixed reactions from fans
Early reactions to the teaser have been varied. Many viewers praised the attention to detail and the inclusion of scenes closely aligned with the book. One comment noted, “Harry being bullied by Dudley at school when he ends up on the roof. Like this is for the book fans.” Another wrote, “They showed A LOT more than I was expecting. The sets look INSANE.”
At the same time, not everyone was convinced. One quipped, “It’s like reading the book in a different font.” Another chimed in, “I've never had so many mixed feelings from a trailer before.” A lot of criticism was also directed at Paapa Essiedu’s casting as Severus Snape, with the actor acknowledging racist attacks over his involvement.
