Def Leppard rocks Mumbai after 49 years with iconic ’80s hits

After waiting for decades, rock legends Def Leppard finally performed in India, and Mumbai had an unforgettable night. Fans at Jio World Garden, BKC, were already singing before the band even came on stage, showing how much everyone loves their music. The three-city tour started in Shillong on March 25, came to Mumbai on March 27, and will end in Bengaluru on March 29, making it a special moment for Indian fans.

Opening band Indus Creed got the crowd ready with high-energy performances and a lively atmosphere. By the time Def Leppard appeared on stage, everyone was excited. Frontman Joe Elliott greeted the crowd with humour and thanks, saying, “Namaste Mumbai, how you doing? Thanks for waiting, it’s only been 49 years, but we’re good to be here,” which got loud cheers.

Joe Elliott shares reflections on the band’s journey

Reflecting on the band’s journey, Joe Elliott said to The Hindustan Times, “If someone had told us back then that we’d one day perform for a crowd in India, I would have laughed… When you’re 16 or 17 and starting a band, you never imagine it going this far.” He recalled the early days: “August 1977, in our parents’ house, that’s where we formed the band. His words touched the fans, connecting older and younger listeners and making the show feel more personal.

During the show, the band had a quiet, special moment. Joe Elliott sang 'Two Steps Behind alone' for the first time in India. Fans sang quietly with feeling, making the place full of emotion.
