Lucasfilm’s film The Mandalorian & Grogu released on May 22 and has since become a major talking point online. The film marks Pedro Pascal’s return as Din Djarin alongside fan-favourite Grogu, popularly known as Baby Yoda, continuing their journey in the Star Wars universe after several years.

According to reports, the film brings the beloved duo back to the big screen after nearly seven years since The Mandalorian first debuted and became one of the franchise’s biggest streaming successes. While many fans expressed excitement over the return, reactions online have remained divided.

Fans react to the return of Grogu

Soon after updates from the film began circulating online, social media platform X was flooded with reactions from fans. Some viewers said they were excited to see Pedro Pascal and Grogu return together, especially after the massive popularity of the Disney+ series.

Others, however, questioned whether the franchise was relying too heavily on nostalgia and familiar characters instead of introducing fresh stories in the Star Wars universe. Several users also debated whether moving the story from streaming to a theatrical format would work successfully.

Despite the mixed reactions, Grogu continues to remain one of the most recognisable and commercially successful characters introduced in modern Star Wars storytelling.

What to expect from the film

Reports stated that The Mandalorian & Grogu will continue the adventures of Din Djarin and Grogu following events from the streaming series. The project is expected to combine large-scale action, emotional storytelling, and connections to the wider Star Wars timeline.

Pedro Pascal is set to reprise his role as the masked bounty hunter, while Grogu’s return has already generated strong buzz among longtime fans of the franchise.

The film is being directed by Jon Favreau, who also played a major role in developing The Mandalorian television series for Disney+.

A major return for Star Wars on the big screen

The project also marks another important theatrical step for the Star Wars franchise following recent years of expansion through streaming shows and spin-offs. Industry watchers believe the film could become one of Disney’s biggest releases once it reaches theatres.
