Germany and Ivory Coast will face off in a crucial Group E match at the FIFA World Cup 2026, with both teams aiming to secure a place in the knockout stage. After winning their opening games, the two sides enter the contest full of confidence and aware that another victory could take them a step closer to qualification.

Germany made a strong start to their campaign with a commanding 7-1 win over Curacao. The result marked one of their most convincing World Cup performances in recent years and reinforced their status as one of the tournament favourites. Head coach Julian Nagelsmann, however, has urged his players to remain focused, insisting that tougher tests still lie ahead.

Germany expecting a stronger challenge

While Germany dominated their opening fixture, the team expects a much more competitive contest against Ivory Coast. Nagelsmann has praised the African side for its pace, discipline and attacking quality, warning that his players cannot afford any complacency.

Germany captain Joshua Kimmich echoed that view, saying the team will gain a better understanding of its strength once it faces stronger opponents during the group stage.

A win against Ivory Coast would put Germany in a strong position to advance to the next round.

Ivory Coast aiming to make history

Ivory Coast began their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ecuador. The result boosted confidence within the squad and strengthened belief that the team can progress beyond the group stage.

Head coach Emerse Fae has said his players are focused on qualification and are not intimidated by Germany’s reputation. Despite being viewed as underdogs, Ivory Coast plans to play positively and challenge one of world football’s traditional powerhouses.

The stakes are particularly high for the African nation, which has never reached the World Cup knockout rounds. A positive result against Germany would significantly improve its chances of making history.

With both teams carrying momentum from their opening victories, the Group E encounter promises to be one of the most important and closely watched matches of the tournament so far.
