A Bengaluru-based robotics firm has drawn attention at the India AI Impact Expo 2026 in Delhi with the unveiling of its quadruped robot, 'Param'. Developed by General Autonomy, the machine is being described as a fully indigenous innovation.
Built from scratch in India
Sharing a video of the robot in action, the startup introduced Param as "India's most powerful indigenous robot dog", underlining that it was not merely assembled domestically but engineered entirely by Indian talent.

"Enough of this nonsense! Presenting PARAM: India's most powerful indigenous robot dog. Not assembled, not bought, BUILT IN INDIA, built by INDIANS. For our nation, for our century, for our world," the company wrote in an X (formerly Twitter) post.
According to the firm, development has been underway for about seven months. When asked about the timeline, it responded, "Tough to quantify time as we took a lot of learnings from our humanoid to build this but the project has been on for about 7 months now and we continue to improve it every fortnight."

What 'Param' can do
In the now-viral clip, 'Param' is seen navigating Bengaluru's busy streets. The robot detects obstacles automatically, climbs stairs up to 30 cm high, and even crab walks to pass through low-clearance spaces.
The startup says the robodog is capable of autonomous navigation and tracking. It can also recover on its own after a fall, a feature crucial for real-world deployment in uneven environments.

Showcase before the Prime Minister
Param was also exhibited in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an event marking a decade of the Startup India initiative.
"Honoured to present our robot dog PARAM to the Hon'ble PM of India Shri @narendramodi, in the presence of @PiyushGoyal at the #NationalStartupDay2026 Deep Tech showcase," the company posted, adding, "PM's advice to our founder @frdahsan: take care of PARAM in Delhi winters!"

Growing role of robodogs
Quadruped robots are built to move easily over rough ground where wheeled machines have trouble. Around the world, they are used for industrial inspections, dangerous search-and-rescue missions, defense logistics and research operations.
