The Union Budget 2026–27 has proposed the development of seven high-speed rail corridors across India, aimed at improving connectivity between key cities and boosting economic growth. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the plan while presenting the Budget in Parliament on Sunday, describing the corridors as growth connectors that will support faster movement of people and goods.
The proposed high-speed rail network is expected to strengthen links between major industrial, commercial and cultural hubs, while also cutting travel time significantly. The move is seen as part of the Centre’s broader push to modernise transport infrastructure and support regional development.
