A shocking incident took place in Khapatiha Kala village under the Pailani police station area of Banda district on Sunday, where a 12-year-old boy died and a 35-year-old woman sustained serious injuries after being buried under a collapsing mound.

According to police, the victims — identified as Monu (12) and Mamta Prajapati (35) — were digging soil to use for plastering a mud house when the loose mound suddenly gave way and fell on them. Both were trapped under the debris before villagers rushed to rescue them.

Pailani SHO Rajesh Verma said the locals managed to pull them out and took them to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared Monu dead on arrival, while Mamta was referred to the Banda Medical College in critical condition, according to PTI report.

Police launch inquiry, villagers mourn young boy’s death

The police have sent Monu’s body for post-mortem, and an investigation into the incident is underway. Officers said preliminary reports suggest that the collapse occurred due to soil erosion and lack of structural stability in the mound.

Villagers expressed grief over the boy’s tragic death, describing him as a cheerful and hardworking child who often helped his neighbours. The district administration is expected to provide assistance to the affected family.

Authorities have also urged residents in rural areas to take safety precautions while digging soil, especially during the monsoon season when loose mounds are prone to collapse.
