Anand Mishra was once known as a 'dabang' IPS officer in Assam. Today, he is the MLA from Buxar after contesting the elections on a BJP ticket.

During his years in service, he led around 150 encounters and earned the reputation of a super cop among the people. His contribution to anti-terror operations was significant and widely acknowledged.

Who is Anand Mishra?

Anand Mishra’s journey began in the village of Parsaura in Bihar. Born on June 1, 1981, he is the son of Paramhansa Mishra. His connection with Bengal also runs deep. The Mishra family had lived in Makhla Tentultala under Uttarpara Municipality in Hooghly district, where his father worked at the Hindustan Motors factory. Later, Anand studied in Kolkata and completed his BA from St. Xavier's College.

At just 22, he surprised everyone by clearing the UPSC exam. In 2011, he became an IPS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre. His first posting was in Assam, where he played a crucial role in counter-terror and anti-militancy operations. He was also instrumental in suppressing terrorism in the Garo Hills of Meghalaya.

Alongside his policing duties, Mishra often stepped forward to help residents in various ways. His goodwill and popularity spread far beyond Assam. In Bihar’s Buxar district, almost everyone knew his name. This strong bond with the people gradually drew him toward politics.

Mishra resigned from the IPS in 2024. His first political test came soon after, when he contested the Lok Sabha elections from Buxar as an independent candidate. Although he didn’t win, securing 50,000 votes was a big achievement for a first-time contestant. Later, he briefly joined Prashant Kishor’s party before moving to the Bharatiya Janata Party in August — a decision that changed his political trajectory.

In the elections where the BJP created history with 89 seats in Bihar, Anand Mishra won from Buxar by a margin of 28,353 votes. Even after victory, he hasn’t forgotten his promises. Unlike many who make big commitments during campaigns but forget them later, Mishra claims he intends to honour every word he gave to the people.

Since winning, he has focused entirely on work rather than celebration. He has introduced a helpline number through which residents can directly reach him with their issues. His relatives, neighbours, and people in his hometown are delighted with his success and hopeful about the change he aims to bring.
