Former Assam Congress president Bhupen Borah has retracted his resignation just hours after announcing his decision to quit the party ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.
Borah reversed his move following the intervention of the Congress high command. According to PTI, All India Congress Committee state in-charge Jitendra Singh confirmed that the 55-year-old leader withdrew his resignation after discussions with the party leadership.
Is Bhupen Borah joining any other party?
When Borah was questioned whether he would be joining any other party, he clarified that he hasn't received any offers as of now. He said, "There has been no formal proposal from any political party, but it is a fact that I have not taken the decision to resign to bid farewell to politics."
Bhupen Kumar Borah served as the President of Assam Congress from 2021 to 2025. He was replaced by MP Gaurav Gogoi in 2025. Borah was twice elected as an MLA in the state.
Gaurav Gogoi has clarified that the Congress will contest 100 of the 126 seats in Assam. The remaining seats will be reserved for allies.
